John Mack

Harvard Medical School professor of psychiatry and Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer who began studying alleged alien abductees in 1990. His rigorous clinical approach found that experiencers showed no signs of psychopathology and their accounts had remarkable consistency. Published 'Abduction: Human Encounters with Aliens' (1994) and 'Passport to the Cosmos' (1999). Harvard attempted to revoke his tenure — the first such attempt in Harvard's history — but backed down after a 14-month investigation found no misconduct. His willingness to risk his career studying the phenomenon lent enormous academic credibility. Interviewed the Ariel School children in Zimbabwe. Killed by a drunk driver in London in 2004.
